The I'm Learning to Trust # 3 Learning to Trust God's Timing: Finding Peace While Waiting on His Plan
Are You Waiting on God Right Now?
Are you in a season of waiting?
Maybe you're praying for a job, hoping for a relationship, waiting for healing, or asking God to fulfill a promise that seems to be taking longer than expected. Maybe you've even found yourself wondering, Does God still care about me?
If that's where you are today, I want you to know that you're not alone.
I'm learning this lesson too.
When Life Doesn't Go According to My Timeline
Life hasn't gone according to my timeline.
Doors have closed. Opportunities have slipped away. While I've been waiting, I've watched other people receive the very things I've been praying for. Friends have landed jobs after months of searching. Others have gotten married, started families, or reached milestones I once hoped would happen in my own life.
Meanwhile, I've spent more than two years praying for opportunities that still haven't arrived.
There were moments when I felt like I was falling behind. Looking at my own life filled me with disappointment while everyone else seemed to be living the life I dreamed about.
Comparison quietly whispered that I was too late.
But God has been teaching me something different.
Why Waiting Feels So Difficult
Waiting is hard because it challenges some of our deepest desires.
We Naturally Crave Certainty and Control
As human beings, we want to know what's coming next. We like having plans, timelines, and clear expectations for the future.
When those plans are delayed, it's easy to feel anxious because we're no longer in control.
We Mistake Delay for Denial
One of the biggest lies I've believed is that if God delays something, He must be saying no.
If I don't get the job...
If I'm still single...
If another opportunity disappears...
Maybe God doesn't want good things for me.
But delay doesn't always mean denial.
Sometimes God is simply preparing us.
We Fear That If It Hasn't Happened Yet, It Never Will
The longer we wait, the louder fear becomes.
I began wondering if I would ever find the right job. Would I ever see the dreams God placed in my heart come true?
Fear loves to convince us that "not yet" means "never."
Faith reminds us that God is still working even when we cannot see it.
Learning That God's Timing Isn't the Same as Mine
One truth the Bible continually reminds me of is this:
God's timing is never the same as ours because He sees the entire story while we only see one chapter.
Sometimes God prepares us before He gives us the blessing.
One of the best examples is Joseph.
Before becoming the ruler of Egypt, Joseph experienced betrayal, slavery, hard work in Potiphar's house, false accusations, and prison.
None of those seasons looked like God's promise.
Yet every difficult season was preparing Joseph for the position God had already planned for him.
Looking back, we can clearly see that God's delay wasn't punishment—it was preparation.
Maybe He's doing the same in our lives.
Delays Can Become Seasons of Growth
I've started realizing that closed doors aren't always signs that God has abandoned us.
Sometimes they're classrooms.
Joseph learned integrity, humility, wisdom, perseverance, and dependence on God long before he ever sat on a throne.
Without those hidden years, he wouldn't have been ready for the responsibility God entrusted to him.
Maybe the season we're trying to escape is the very season God is using to shape our character.
What Waiting Has Been Teaching Me
Patience Isn't Passive—It's Active Trust
Waiting doesn't mean doing nothing.
While I'm waiting for God's promises, I'm still called to be faithful.
I continue applying for jobs.
I continue uploading content.
I continue writing new novel chapters.
I continue serving where God has placed me today.
Trusting God's timing doesn't mean sitting still—it means faithfully doing today's work while leaving tomorrow in His hands.
Faith Grows Strongest Before the Answers Arrive
The past two and a half years haven't been easy.
I've been discouraged more times than I can count.
Sometimes I've blamed myself.
Sometimes I've wondered whether God was listening.
Sometimes it felt like heaven was silent.
But every time those thoughts came, I reminded myself that hope isn't gone simply because the answer hasn't arrived yet.
Faith grows most during the waiting, not after the breakthrough.
Peace Comes from Surrender
I've discovered that real peace doesn't come from having everything under control.
It comes from knowing that God is in control.
I may not understand what He's doing today, but I trust that He's still writing my story with purpose.
Practical Ways I'm Learning to Trust God's Timing
Pray Honestly
Instead of pretending to be strong, I've learned to come before God exactly as I am.
Some prayers are full of gratitude.
Others are full of tears.
I admit my fears, my struggles, my failures, and my doubts.
God already knows my heart, so honesty has brought me closer to Him.
Keep a Gratitude Journal
Every day, I write down things I'm thankful for.
My family.
My church.
The gifts and talents God has given me.
The small blessings I often overlook.
Gratitude reminds me that even while I'm waiting for some prayers to be answered, God is already doing countless good things in my life.
Remember God's Faithfulness
Whenever waiting feels unbearable, I remember how faithful God has been throughout my life.
There was a time when I almost lost hope completely.
There was even a season when I survived a suicide attempt.
Looking back, I see that God never abandoned me—not even then.
If He carried me through my darkest moments, I believe He will continue carrying me now.
Focus on Today's Responsibilities
Instead of asking, When will this happen? I've been learning to ask, What has God asked me to do today?
Today, I can write another chapter.
Today, I can upload content.
Today, I can grow.
Today's obedience matters more than tomorrow's uncertainty.
The Lesson I'm Still Learning
Trust isn't built when everything makes sense.
Trust is built when I choose to believe that God is still working, even when I can't see Him working.
It's built through every unanswered prayer.
Every tear.
Every surrender.
Every day I choose faith instead of fear.
God's silence doesn't always mean God's absence.
Sometimes He's preparing us.
Sometimes He's protecting us.
Sometimes He's inviting us to become the person we're praying to be.
If You're Waiting Too...
I don't know what tomorrow holds.
I still have questions without answers.
I'm still waiting for some prayers to be fulfilled.
But I'm learning that trusting God isn't about knowing His schedule.
It's about believing His heart.
If my story resonates with you, I hope you'll remember this:
God's timing may not match our expectations, but it has never stopped being perfect for the story He is writing.
If you're in a season of waiting, don't lose hope.
God is still working—even when you can't see it.
