Every country and of course business has its own unique way to select potential employees. In Indonesia the country with the fourth largest population in the world, the job-hunting competition is high with the increase numbers in the unemployment rate and low numbers of new businesses that make Indonesians more difficult to get hired.
As difficult as it is for a native Indonesian to get
hired, the hiring market has now expanded internationally through remote work
markets and the Indonesian neighboring countries.
So, if you are interested to find a job in Indonesia,
you may need to read this article first. Here it is five requirements that you
need to know before applying for a job in Indonesia.
# 1 Huge number of competitors
As mentioned above, Indonesia is the fourth most
populated country in the world with many of the citizens in a working age
group. You must know that huge companies can receive a hundred job applications
per week or maybe days. You must know that when you apply for a job in
Indonesia, you may find yourself competing with such a huge number of
competitors.
# Age restrictions
Many companies in Indonesia write an age restriction
in the job post. For example, below 30 years old or max 25 years old. You have
to be very careful before applying and make sure that you fit the age restriction
that matches the company that you’re applying for. It’s different than the job
requirements in other countries such as Europe does. Usually, candidates need
to be below 30 to 35 years old in order to apply for the company but some
companies required maximum age of 25 years or even 22 years. So be careful
about this requirement when you’re applying for a job in Indonesia.
# 3 Clothing and religious requirements
Some companies such as Islamic companies even Syariah
Bank prefer employees to dress with hijab and a hat called ‘peci’ also have
Islam as the employee’s religion. But there are also some companies that prefer
the employees to be clean and neat looking. If you’re from Europe or another Western country, you’ll be having a culture shock when you know this
requirement. So, if you’re looking for a job in an Islamic company in Indonesia
make sure you met the clothing and religion requirements otherwise, they won’t
even consider you as one of the potential candidates.
# 4 Education requirements
Most companies require their potential employee to possess
at least a bachelor’s degree. Many employees that are high school graduates or
lower usually work in small businesses called UMKM or other menial work such as
cleaning services, package courier, and many more. So, make sure to get your bachelor’s
degree especially if you’re applying for a well-established company in
Indonesia.
# 5 Promise not to marry requirement.
Some companies, mostly government-established
companies have a term called “Ikatan Dinas” which means that you are
required to work there for one or two years without getting married. These “Ikatan
Dinas” programs are also for new high school graduates the company

two years and have to pay back the money by working in the company for two
