5 steps to turn your pain into power (another victim mentality series)

Having a victim mentality happens to everyone. In the past article we shared about 7 habits of victim mentality and how to change them. This time we will learn the 5 steps to turn your pain that causes victim mentality to power.

Face it! Everyone has a negative experience in life, and it doesn’t go well and is hard to face, especially if you have a victim mentality. On the brink of despair and pain, those negative pains can turn into power.

Here are the 5 steps to turn your pain into power.

# 1 Adopt a positive mindset

With a more positive approach to the negative things that happen you can start to turn your pain into power. Just simply react “That can happen to anyone”, “There are of course a bad day”, “I can get through this” and “Everyone also had something like this happen to them”. According to my personal experience positive self-talk, daily affirmations and working out can help to adopt a positive mindset.

# 2 Practice self-compassion

Be kind to yourself when you have a bad day or bad things happen in your life. You can do this by self-care, writing the things that you are grateful for, and many more. But just remember that don’t end up pitying yourself that made your victim mentality mindset become stronger.

# 3 Set Goals and take action

Setting goals can be a great thing since you will be focused on how to reach that goal. A simple thing like a New Year’s resolution can also help you reach your goals, like me!

# 4 Cultivate supportive relationship

Support system matters not just in healing a mental illness but also in fighting the victim mentality mindset. Surround yourself with the good and right people that can help you drive better. For example, my writing group, my mental illness community, and my family. Having a supportive support system can help to back you up when you’re down or feeling unmotivated to reach your goal, especially during your negative and painful experiences.

# 5 Embrace growth and resilience

See the setbacks, pain, and negative experiences as opportunities for transformation. Knowing that you will have become a great person by overcoming your setbacks, pain, and negative experiences can motivate you to be more resilient during those tough times.
